Honda, the Japanese motor company, launched by making motorcycles in 1948 as Japan tried to recover from World War II. The company's first dirt bike, the "Elsinore," debuted in 1970. Since that time, Honda has made huge strides in the production of dirt bikes, and they produce some of the most popular models on the market. Honda's XR series has been around since the manufacturer started making dirt bikes. The XR250L is meant for off-road riding but is also street legal. The XR250L was discontinued in 2002.
